Dear Friends,
We have a unique opportunity to save a Vermont treasure - the Burlington Cathedral on the hill. Designed by two world-renowned modern masters, Edward Larrabee Barnes and Dan Kiley, this landmark property remains the heart and lungs of the city and deserves to be saved as a community asset.
But we need your help to make it happen. We need to raise our voices and tell the City and owner that we care about this significant community treasure. We need to intervene and help make the case for its preservation.
You may be thinking, "Why should I care about saving this old building?" The answer is simple: saving historic landmark properties like the Burlington Cathedral is not only important for the preservation of our cultural heritage and community identity, but it also makes economic sense.
Investing in the preservation and revitalization of historic properties like the Cathedral has been shown to have a positive impact on local economies. These properties attract tourists, stimulate small business growth, and increase property values. In fact, a study by the National Trust for Historic Preservation found that every dollar invested in historic preservation generates a return of four dollars in economic activity.
Furthermore, preserving and revitalizing the Cathedral will provide much needed community spaces for art and culture. Art and culture have been shown to have a positive impact on mental and physical health, as well as social cohesion and economic development. In a time when our democracy is in peril and our country is being polarized, we need more safe spaces for us to gather and connect.
So, let's raise our voices and save this Vermont treasure. Let's invest in our community and our future by preserving and revitalizing the Burlington Cathedral. Together, we can make a difference.
