You, my friend are inspiring me to write this blog -- You are the magic -- thank you! Apologies again for floundering around in a public way until I figure this out!
I almost forgot to thank you for pulling up so many wonderful literary quotes about the moon. There would never be enough time in a lifetime to read everything worth reading.
Yet another beautifully penned essay. Thank you for introducing me to yet another new piece of music in “song to the moon.“
I have two Moon related stories. Whenever possible, I used to try to time vacations so that there would be a full moon somewhere close to the middle of my time off. In March 1998 we celebrated my 50th birthday (6 months late) on a cruise from Fort Lauderdale through the Panama Canal, and up the western coast of Costa Rica and Guatemala before finishing in Acapulco. The ship‘s dining room overlooked the stern, and our dining table was by a window. When we sat down for dinner, I waited a while, keeping a close eye on my watch. Finally, I got up and quietly sought out the dining room, captain, and requested that the curtain by our table be completely raised. A few minutes later, we were treated to the full moon rising over the ocean and the coastline. Planning is everything!
My second moon story took place in Arizona in 1976. I was with two clients from American Express. (I was running their advertising business at Ogilvie & Mather in NYC) we had finished some meetings in Phoenix and stopped in Sedona for dinner before heading to the Grand Canyon on a Friday night. The oak creek owl restaurant was superb, and we completely lost track of time. We took a wrong turn, leaving the restaurant and got to drive up the corkscrew, hairpin turns of oak creek canyon in a blizzard when we finally got to the south gate into the Grand Canyon national Park, there clearly has been no traffic in quite a few hours, and we only knew where the road was by driving between the tall aluminum markers with red reflectors. As we proceeded, the snow suddenly stopped, and the sky cleared, revealing a brilliant full moon overhead. We knocked on the door at the El Tovar Hotel to let the night watchmen know that we were still coming and then proceeded to drive along the S. Rim Rd. to the first Vistapoint. We got out of the car and, wearing nothing but our loafers and our overcoat, spent the next 45 minutes, marveling at the incredible beauty of the Grand Canyon in the full moon, light with the upper reaches, dusted with snow. That picture is firmly etched in my memory, and, that there was not a cloud in the sky, the next day, or on the subsequent visit in 1990, never has the Grand Canyon been more beautiful. Thank you Mr. Moon! ❤️🌕
Oh what vivid pictures of the moon's magnificence! My mind's eye is full of these glorious moonrises thanks to you! I can almost taste the air in each of these settings! Thank you for sharing!
I played Renee Fleming's recording on my phone for mom as we gazed out watching the moon rise over the meadow and she said: "where is Lize's version? I want to hear Lize's pure version without all the operatic nonsense on the high-notes!" We were singing moon songs together from Blue Moon to Fly me to the Moon and sadly with the news of the earthquake this morning I am now hearing the lyrics to Bad Moon Rising. Luckily, my AI bot has me pegged this morning for "joy and moon" so Spotify just fed me "Instant Karma" and I like these lyrics better: "Well we all shine on, Like the moon and the stars and the sun, Well we all shine on, Ev'ryone come on".... John Lennon
My goodness. Would it be possible to have more fun than watching the full moon rising over the meadow and singing moon songs with your dear mom? What a special, precious moment to be treasured. 💕🌕
Magical.

Floundering? Flounders flounder. It takes God given talent to write as beautifully as you do.

I am just getting started! So much moving material to share about the moon!
